Our 2012 Coachmen Catalina 281-BHS is a very spacious and VERY clean travel trailer, designed with families in mind. On the outside it's a no frills all business camper, with sleek signature aluminum siding in a neutral toned paint job.
The difference between the exterior and the interior is night and day, inside there are sleeping options all over. The master bedroom has a nice camper queen mattress accompanied by matching his and hers double wardrobes. The bed also pops up and is supported by gas pistons to make accessing the enormous storage compartment underneath easy. It's a cozy bedroom with enough space on either side of the bed so you can get out and not have to disturb your partner. Towards the rear of the camper are two bunk beds. The bottom bunk is larger than the top and could very comfortably sleep one adult or two children if need be with the top bunk more narrow to facilitate easy access. The dinette and couch also convert to full size beds bringing the sleeping capacity of this camper to 8 quite comfortably.
Even with all these beds and accommodations the unit feels large and open, especially with the slide-out engaged. The bathroom doesn’t feel cramped and there’s lots of headroom in the shower with the bathroom sink located just outside the bathroom for morning hygiene; a very useful feature when everyone is getting ready for the day.
After everyone is out of bed and you convert everything back to day time use you'll find a large dinette that seats four comfortably adjacent to a large and tall window to take in the sun and scenery. The couch seats three and is a great spot to watch the included television. This unit has an HD antenna and can also hook up to cable or satellite. There is also a sound system and speakers throughout the unit. There is one large central AC unit and also a furnace which is ducted through the floors to evenly distribute heat. The furnace runs on propane so as long as your battery is charged you can run the furnace even if you aren't hooked up to shore power. The fridge is also configured to run with or without shore power. It is a 2-way fridge meaning it can run on electricity or propane. This is a great feature if you plan on packing the fridge before hitting the road as you can run the fridge while in transit. Meal prep will be a joy as there is lots of counter space in the kitchen along with a microwave, 3 burner stove, and double basin porcelain sink. There are ample cabinets and cupboards. There are two propane tanks in the front so you never have to worry about being left without propane.
