Long before the advent of modern Van Life culture and prior to the proliferation of massive Class B campers housed by Mercedes and Dodge sprinter vans. You had campers like our 1996 Pleasure Way, the epitome of cool both during its time and now. No other Class B going down the road looks anything like it. On the outside it’s got aircraft inspired styling and bodylines beautifully complementing the dodge chassis. The off white paint job is tastefully accented by aquamarine blue pinstriping alongside vinyl decals.
Driving the Pleasure Way feels like what I wish all campervans felt like to drive. Due to the smaller stature of this RV and the significant reduction in weight, when you step on the gas pedal you still feel like there’s a V8 in front of you. The torque-y throttle response is surprising to say the least and the single wheeled rear end, instead of a dually, makes it feel more like driving a van and less like driving a brick. Overall it's a worthwhile experience.
This camper truly carries the spirit of adventure with it, the spare tire on the rear is a subtle encouragement to engage in semi risky endeavors. The previous owner also took the liberty of adding an extended tow hitch along with a brake controller already set up and ready to go. Tow whatever your heart desires, the Ram 3500 chassis boasts an over 8,000lbs towing capacity. Tow another camper if you want, tow a large boat like a pontoon, the world is your oyster.
The front end of our Pleasure Way is done in a similar way to roadtreks of the mid to late 90s, this not being cool enough for our previous owner, he added a pair of retro styled PIAA fog lights as well as a bug deflector. The roof in the front steps up to accommodate the bumped up ceiling inside, but the real treat is in the two porthole windows on the face. Both allowing more natural light into the coach as well as giving passengers a unique view of the open road.
With the outside being so absolutely wicked it’s only right that the interior of the Pleasure Way be as equally cool. Tired of the modern drab interiors of today’s campers? Well how about a whole bunch of aquamarine crush velvet? If that’s not enough the curtains, seats in the rear, as well as the cockpit seats are all decked out in the same material and color.
The kitchen is an absolute godsend of efficiency and order. Everything you need inside of 10 square feet. The two burner propane stove top trimmed out with stainless steel is complemented by two stainless steel side splashes to make cleanup quick and easy alongside cutting down on the mess. The stainless steel sink is just next door for even more ease of use. Turn around and you’re greeted by the cabinet mounted microwave and refrigerator/freezer. All of this with more cabinet space than you could ask for and it’s a dream come true.
The most impressive thing inside this camper van is the fact that by some miracle Pleasure Way managed to squeeze in a full bathroom. Other camper vans of this size often come with strange fold out contraptions and toilets. No, our Pleasure Way comes complete with a stationary toilet, bathroom sink, showerhead, and mirrored medicine cabinet. All of which fits in a room about the size of a wardrobe.
